Chulu East Peak, the prominent peak in the Chulu range, within the Annapurna massif, also the part of larger Damodar Himal is one of the most gorgeous and frequently climbed peaks above 6000 m. Located in the upper part of the beautiful Manang valley, the trek to this stunning peak is combined with the Annapurna Circuit Trek taking the travelers into rich villages inhabited by Gurungs, Sherpas, Thakalis, Mananges, and Tibetan immigrants. The trek is an exceptional opportunity to explore the local culture and traditions practiced and carried forward from generation to generation.
First scaled in 1955 by a German Expedition team, Chulu East Peak is a technically straightforward and demanding peak. Anyone willing to embark on any peak Climbing adventure must possess sound physical and mental health with strong endurance and physical fitness. The climb to the summit of the peak is considered to be a technical one requiring walking with fixed ropes on a 900 m slope till the summit. The top of the summit offers mesmerizing views of the Annapurna massif, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Lamjung Himal, Tilicho peak, and many more in the periphery.
The trek on the Annapurna Circuit takes the travelers through some of the most beautiful villages with centuries-old traditions, unique culture, and traditional ways of farming and living as well. Most parts of the trekking trail are rugged and off-the-beaten as they fall in the remote areas of Nepal. The area lies in the rain shadow areas formed by the main Annapurna Himal which makes it convenient to travel even in the monsoon season where most other peaks do not attract many visitors in this season. Besides the jaw-dropping views of the Giant snow-capped peaks and dramatic landscapes, the other highlights of the trek are crossing the Thorong La pass, one of the highest passes, visiting the Muktinath temple, staying in awesome Jomsom village, and exploring the hidden gems of the Manang valley.
The best seasons to go on Chulu East Peak Climbing are Spring, Autumn, and Monsoon as well.
Eight K Expedition has a fully competent team of highly experienced Sherpas and other staff who will make your travel adventurous, memorable, and the best one.
As soon as you land at the airport and complete your immigration procedure, you will be greeted by one of our representatives from 8k. Then, you will be escorted to the hotel to rest. In the evening, you may join us at our office or explore Thamel street where you can enjoy delicious cuisine and a vibrant marketplace.
The second day has been allocated for trip preparation and sightseeing. You may go around the World Heritage Sites in the valley while we will prepare for the trip. We will pack all the stuff required for the peak climbing to Chulu East.
We drive to Besisahar via a Private Jeep enjoying the beautiful sceneries throughout the way. The settlements on the hilly side, the roadside hotels, waterfalls, numerous small rivers, and suspension bridges, and the never-ending views of giant snow-capped Mountains at a distance will make your road trip a trip to remember. We stop at Besisahar to rest overnight.
The next day we wake up for some scrumptious breakfast that will keep us full until we reach our destination for lunch. We may trek to Chame via trekking route as well but in this customized trip we take our jeep to Chame, the district headquarter of Manang District. Surrounded by green trees of maple, fir, pine, and junipers, enjoying the view of the Lamjung Himal, Annapurna II, and IV, we spend our night in a cozy lodge in Chame and taste some authentic food for dinner.
With the striking views of the gigantic Annapurna Massif in the outskirts, we slowly trek towards Pisang. Following some narrow and steep valley, we will get to witness the sight of Paungda Danda Rock Face that rises 1500m above the river and is a subsidiary of Pisang Peak. As we gain some elevation, we will make sure that we remain careful and safe.
We slowly elevate through the green lush forests in the tropical zone. As we trek, we will stop by for lunch and resume our trek until we reach Yak Kharka at 4210 m. The total trek time will be about 6 hours on this day.
Trekking along the treeless zone on the rocky and rugged paths, viewing the wonderful mountain ranges in the backdrop, we head towards the Chulu East Base Camp. Upon reaching the base camp, we will rest in a tented camp and enjoy a hot and delicious meal prepared by our cooks.
At the base camp, we will train and practice using the climbing gears. We will conduct a briefing about the nature of the climb and what you need to do to climb safely. After we are fully prepared, we will wait for the next day for the Climbing.
Climbing Chulu East peak is relatively easier and can be done without setting up any higher camps. So, we start early from the base camp and reach the summit before the afternoon. After the glorious summit, we then return back to the base camp to rest overnight.
On this day, we trek to the remote valley of Manang. Manang is a beautiful hidden valley with rich Buddhist culture. The people here follow a simple rural lifestyle and are kind and heartwarming. We will spend our night in the mesmerizing Manang village.
After Manang, we trek back to Yak Kharka, huge pastureland for Yaks. The grassy meadow is a perfect spot for a wonderful overnight stay.
From Yak Kharka, we head towards the Thorong Phedi, Base of Thorong La Pass. Crossing the Thorong La Pass is challenging so we rest overnight at Thorong Phed and cross the pass the next day.
This is the day when we get to one of the highest points of the trek. We start our trek early in the morning before sunrise to avoid the wind. From Thorong La High Camp, we ascend slowly and steadily until we cross the Thorong La Pass, the world’s highest pass which is also the most widely used. After crossing Thorong La, we gradually descend towards Muktinath in the Mustang District. The elevation decreases sharply as we descend about 1600 meters. In Muktinath, we visit the temple, sacred to both the Hindus and Buddhist followers. The natural spring water flows from 108 taps in the outer courtyard of Muktinath where people bathe even during freezing cold temperatures.
The morning at Muktinath is spiritual and awakening. After breakfast, we head downwards to Jharkot village where we have the opportunity to visit the Shakyamuni monastery. Then, following the windy and dusty road until the Kaligandaki river, crossing a few suspension bridges, we reach Jomsom and spend our night in a cozy lodge.
One of the most beautiful flights in the Annapurna Region is Jomsom to Pokhara as it offers some mind-blowing views of the huge mountain range including the Annapurna massif, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and Machapuchhre along with many smaller peaks. Upon landing at Pokhara, you are free to go sightseeing in the nearby tourist attractions.
After exploring the wonderful city of Pokhara, we head back to Kathmandu via a short domestic flight. Upon reaching Kathmandu, you can go sightseeing or shop for souvenirs. The evening dinner will be hosted by the Eight K company for all our trekkers and staff.
